People are trying to spot the $20m difference between this real and fake Ferrari

Believe it or not, one of these Ferrari 250 California Spyders is a fake

One of them is a 1998 BMW Z3 stripped and modified to look like the $20 million Prancing Horse.

It’s one of the best Ferrari replicas we’ve ever seen, but there are a couple of telltale signs that not everything is as it appears.

Finished in Ferrari’s iconic Rosso Corsa red, this replica was built with the same shaped body as the short wheelbase version of the California Spyder.

Its current owner Tom Hill says the replica is almost exactly the same in shape and size.

“In fact, it’s almost identical in shape and size to the real car but it drives a lot different,” he said.

“We’re talking six speeds with 500 horsepower.”

That’s almost double the horsepower of the original 280hp-Spyder.

The replica also has a functional hood scoop, Spyder door handles, and quad exhaust outlets.

In a video posted to YouTube (scroll down to watch), Hill takes us through the finer details too, including the identical grille, and the Marshall fog lamps.

It’s even covered in original Ferrari badging.

The interior has also been designed to mimic that in the 250, and these images prove just how incredibly similar they are.

In fact, the interior looks almost exactly the same, but there are a few differences in functionality.

“We’ve got air-conditioning, we’ve got electronic gauges, and we’ve got a bigger door,” Hill said.

“The California was originally really not very good for taller people, so if you’re over six feet tall, you’ll fit in this car and you can actually drive it.”

You can take a more detailed look at the car here!

When you take a super close look at the replica, there are of course some giveaways it’s not the real thing.

For one, the windshield on the replica sits at a different angle and has quarter windows.

There are obvious differences in the wheels, and inside you’ve got a digital odometer and BMW seatbelts.

But if you can overlook those minor details, the Ferrari replica is now available to the highest bidder on Bring a Trailer

The current highest bid sits at $210,000, but the auction remains open.

There’s just one drawback; Ferrari famously hates it when people modify their cars or create replicas.

So, if you want to remain in Ferrari’s good graces, maybe steer clear of this one.

But if you’ve got little hope of ever owning a real Ferrari, which let’s be honest is most of us, this is probably the closest you’ll ever get.
