Ferrari has given us a cheeky tease of its new Amalfi Spider supercar, with a folding roof that is unlike any other we’ve seen before.

Every new Ferrari supercar is guaranteed to turn heads, with the Amalfi Spider no different, following hot on the heels of the Amalfi coupe.

Marketed as an entry-level car, the new Amalfi takes over from the Roma, which also had a folding roof, as did its own predecessor, the Portofino.

If an entry-level supercar is something you are looking at, it looks like the Maranello-based manufacturer has got you covered.

Why the folding roof is such a game-changer

It might sound trivial, but the folding roof being widely reported is the party piece of the new Amalfi Spider supercar.

Previously, the Porofino and California had folding roofs, but these were heavier hardtops.

That is where this new supercar sets itself apart from its predecessors.

Gone is that lumpy, heavy hardtop roof.

In its place is a new, folding softop, which has a couple of benefits.

Firstly, it is lighter than a hardtop, meaning the weight is kept down versus previous Spider coupes.

Secondly, it allows the same access to the open air that you’d get in earlier convertible Ferraris.

While Maranello has released no images of the new Spider yet, it is set to be a real headturner.

When will the Ferrari Amalfi Spider launch?

Under the hood, the recipe is the same as we saw with the coupe version of the supercar.

The Spider has a superb 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, making 631hp and 560lb-ft of torque.

That gives the car a staggering 0-62mph time of just 3.3 seconds.

The convertible will have extra weight due to the folding mechanism.

But that will only see that acceleration time increase to 3.5 seconds, so it’s not a big penalty.

There is one other downside of the convertible.

That is, the folding roof mechanism will take away some of the luggage space.

But most people who drive one of these cars probably won’t need to take much luggage with them.

It is looking highly likely that this new car will be revealed in March 2026.

In the United States, the Coupe version starts at just over $260,000.

Expect this new folding roof model to cost a bit more, around the $270,000 range.
