This Chevelle Malibu SS spent years in the garage receiving upgrades, and the result is simply magnificent.

After a 21-year hiatus from America’s roads, the car is back fighting fit under consignment, with just 28,469 miles on the clock.

Not only does the car come with improvements, but it also comes with a binder full to the brim with photos of the restoration.

But, despite two decades of restoration works, the car’s subsequent ending isn’t what you’d quite expect.

The Chevelle Malibu SS – an icon of the sphere

The Chevelle Malibu first hit the auto scene in 1964, with the Malibu quickly becoming the frontrunner.

Allowing Chevrolet to enter the muscle car market, the early ’60s releases certainly made their mark, with the Malibu Chevelle package and six-cylinder V8 engines proving popular.

Thanks to their popularity and sleek exterior, Chevelle Malibus are highly desirable on the resale market, and this example will have any muscle car fanatic in a chokehold.

Found for sale on eBay, this model looks sleek and is clearly in very good condition.

However, under the hood lies a secret, so for fans of the original deal, you’re out of luck this time, but more on that later.

There is a twist in the tale, though

Now, even though the Chevelle Malibu SS is in excellent condition, it turns out that it was the result of many years of hard work.

This Chevelle Malibu SS Sport Coupe spent a whopping 21 years in restoration, starting in 2001 and ending in 2022, but the results have clearly paid off.

During the restoration process, improvements included a new OEM steering wheel, chrome trims, new seatbelts and retractors, and even a new horn.

Inside the car, things get even better with no missing elements and a squeaky-clean cabin.

The reason for selling? The current owner only has a limited space for his collection.

However, the original Chevelle Malibu SS engine is nowhere to be seen.

Instead, in its place is a rebuilt 350ci V8 that ‘fits great in the engine bay and looks spectacular with the Edelbrock intake, finned valve covers, and orange engine paint’, according to the listing.

Despite all of the car’s perks, the listing ended on January 15th with the highest bid reaching $15,900.00.

That’s one lucky buyer
