This Florida-based YouTuber bought a damaged, cheap BMW M3, which he described as a $5,000 paperweight, then realized it could be the flip of a century if he fixes it.

The E46 BMW M3 had the potential to be a budget-friendly DIY project car with major money-making potential, if he worked out what the mysterious electrical fault was.

He spent about an hour troubleshooting and replacing various pieces and, during his tests, realized he might be dealing with a grounding issue.

The simple problem took no time at all to fix and cost him no money either – it really could be the flip of the century for this YouTuber.

His cheap BMW M3 could be his greatest bargain yet

This YouTuber bought a cheap BMW M3 car for a real bargain. Although he never stated quite how much he paid for it, he did explain why he got it.

“This M3 was ridiculously cheap – quite possibly the cheapest on today’s market… Junk cars that have been in major accidents sell for around the same amount that I paid for this one,” he said.

He later described the car as having the potential to become a ‘$5,000 paperweight’. So it’s best to assume it cost him around $5,000.

The BMW had major potential, though. The front bumper needed to be replaced, but the most pressing issue was that the charging system was completely dead.

The car ran, but the battery didn’t charge. No it was up to Samcrac, the YouTuber who purchased, it to work out what the problem was.

Despite the lack of a battery warning light, the alternator wasn’t charging. He replaced it with a brand-new Valeo unit, but still no luck.

After he found oil on the ground straps, Sam realized it could be a grounding issue. So he cleaned the ground straps and replaced them, but still the car didn’t charge.

Then inspiration struck as he found a loose, corroded wire at the starter.

He decided to clean and tighten the connection, which fixed the whole issue with the lack of charging completely without cost. We’ve seen people get cheap repairs before, but rarely do fixes work when they’re completely free.

He felt a bit sorry for the previous owner who gave up a car with such an easily fixable problem.

But not that sorry, because he managed to get a BMW M3 in full working order for easily less than $10,000. It’s the bargain of the century!
