After seeing the rapid rise of Chinese EVs, thanks to brands like BYD and Xiaomi, Ford CEO Jim Farley says he’s been ‘humbled’ and fears for the future of the company if tech giants in America don’t start helping out.
It’s undeniable that Chinese EVs are on the rise.
After taking Asia and Europe by storm, the market has shifted entirely in China’s favor, leaving American brands like Tesla and Ford quaking in their boots.
Now, Jim Farley has called on Apple and Google for help to save Ford after being humbled.

Ford CEO Jim Farley makes bold declaration that American brands could be eclipsed by Chinese EVs
Ford has been a leading car manufacturer for a century and a half, ever since Henry Ford himself pioneered the Model B.
But the last year has not been favorable to the legacy brand, which has fallen down the pecking order at the hands of Tesla and Chevrolet, with demand for EVs at an all-time high.
The electric movement has seen the Mustang Mach-E surge in popularity, but not enough.
Now, examining the industry worldwide, Ford CEO Jim Farley has revealed the stark truth that American tech moguls need to start pulling together or face being eclipsed entirely by Chinese EVs.
“It’s the most humbling thing I have ever seen. Seventy percent of all EVs in the world, electric vehicles, are made in China,” Farley said during a panel at the Aspen Ideas Festival.

“They have far superior in-vehicle technology. Huawei and Xiaomi are in every car,” he added.
“You get in, you don’t have to pair your phone. Automatically, your whole digital life is mirrored in the car.
“Beyond that, their cost, the quality of their vehicles is far superior to what I see in the West.”
Why is China winning the EV race?
The Ford exec claimed that the likes of Apple and Google need to start helping the American tech game, and that their reluctance to get into the car sector is hindering the entire country.
This is where the Chinese EVs manage to keep the costs minimal. Xiaomi is an existing tech giant and uses its own software in manufacturing.
Famously, Apple’s car was a $10 billion flop that never came to fruition, and the software it supplies at the moment is being snubbed by the biggest brands.

So far, America has held the Chinese EVs at arm’s length, but now almost all of the US execs are in agreement that the market will be opened up to BYD and Xiaomi in the near future.
With that, it’s imperative that models like the Mustang Mach-E decrease in price, or face being undercut by the cheaper alternatives.
“We are in a global competition with China, and it’s not just EVs. And if we lose this, we do not have a future Ford,” Jim Farley said.
