Watching a Ford desert rally racer in action is something very special, as we can see in this video of one whizzing across the desert at 120mph with a $250,000 suspension system.
This rather brilliant video has been doing the rounds on social media, and it was initially shared by the Terrible Herbst Motorsports racing team.
They are incredibly experienced in desert rally races, and one of the most successful, with over 40 years of experience racing at all sorts of events in vehicles like pickup trucks.
Their video shows just what a rally racer goes through when it is at full pace, and just how captivating it can look from the outside.
What the video of the desert racer shows us
The vehicle in the video is the Monster Energy Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150.
This is one of the most successful vehicles in desert racing history, although we will have more on that later.

In the video, the pickup truck is being launched across the desert on one of the various paths that carve their way through it.
The suspension is easily the most captivating part.
We can see the wheels moving up and down at a vast rate, as the truck makes its way across the sand.
It is clear the suspension is working overtime, and the wheels are moving around like crazy.
It will be taking some punishment with that much movement at such a high speed.
The desert Ford F-150 pickup has had huge success
Terrible Herbst Motorsports has had quite a lot of success with rally racers such as the Ford F-150.
The team has multiple wins under its belt, with Ed and Tim Herbst racking up 11 career wins in SCORE Trophy-Truck, including four of the 20 season championships.
The pair won the championship in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003.
Power from these trucks can be as high as 850hp, showing how highly modified they are for the desert terrain.
The team was able to win the 2024 Baja 1000 Spec TT, and they were the 2024 Spec Truck champions, capping off an amazing year for the team.
The company was founded in the 1930s, and it soon became one of the biggest gas station chains in the United States.
Their racing story actually began around the same time to coincide with the opening of the company’s first service station.
That passion for racing has been ever present within the family since.
The biggest off-road races in the world
Desert racing is still an incredibly popular form of motorsport, and it’s given us some amazing cars and drivers over the years.
Perhaps the most famous is the Dakar Rally, formerly the Paris-Dakar Rally, that typically runs in Saudi Arabia.
For many years it ran in Europe and South Africa, while South America was also the home of the rally for a period.

Another is the Baja 1000, an annual race held on the Baja California Peninsula. The course for this event is roughly 850 miles.
It is one of the most fearsome desert races in the world.
So that means it is perfect for a highly modified Ford F-150 with incredible suspension.
