A Ford GT that spent half of its life hidden in a garage has been brought back out of retirement.

American YouTuber Ed Bolian of the VINwiki YouTube channel was tipped off about an abandoned GT sitting in a garage near Atlanta, Georgia.

Deciding to investigate, he headed down with Matthew Ivanhoe, the owner of Connecticut car dealership, The Cultivated Collector.

The Ford GT left abandoned for 15 years

It’s unclear why this car had been left unused for so long, but time has not been kind to it.

The bodywork was suffering from extensive mold, and the inside wasn’t looking great either.

Most of the interior surfaces – from the seats to the dashboard – were in a pretty gross condition.

Ironically, some of the items found in the car were there to ward off bad smells, such as a pot of essential oils.

But as you might imagine, fifteen years hadn’t left the car smelling like roses, and bugs had come to reside in the pot.

All in all, it was an icky car to climb inside.

It was enough to warrant Bolian and Ivanhoe to wear hazmat suits to enter.

Despite its shoddy appearance, the GT was remarkably still in working order.

After a quick jump of the battery, they were able to fire the GT’s 5.4-litre 550bhp V8 engine.

Admittedly, the rough sound emitting from it pointed towards it running on only four of its eight cylinders.

The men rolled the car out of the garage onto a flatbed, and it was driven off for a much-needed makeover.

Hopefully the car can eventually be given the makeover it deserves.
