Ford just unveiled the most powerful convertible Mustang ever built, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC.
The unveil took place in Michigan, which is normal for a Ford, but what’s really special is the way they did it.
As far as we can remember, no other legacy automaker has ever done it this way before.
One of the most powerful Mustangs ever
The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC isn’t the most powerful Ford-branded pony car in the world, but it’s in that league.
That title particular title belongs to the GTD, with 815 horsepower, or the RNR Spec with 870 horsepower.
However, for a very good reason, some people think the RNR shouldn’t be included in this conversation.
The GTD is a standalone model, while the RTR is technically a performance upgrade tuned by RTR (Ready To Rock), a tuning firm that almost exclusively deals with Ford.
As for the Dark Horse SC, this convertible beast produces 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque, which means it is the most powerful convertible production Mustang.
Not a bad title to brag about.
And to make that point, Ford arranged one of the most spectacular launches ever.
How Ford launched the Dark Horse SC
Ford unveiled the new 795-horsepower Mustang Dark Horse SC by lowering it from a crane at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
We’ve seen cars on cruise ships or yachts before, but it was always a rare one-off model or a random supercar stunt on the part of a creator.
We can’t remember a legacy brand using a cruise ship to launch what is technically a full-fledged production model.
For most of the day, Ford kept the car covered and no one really knew what it was.
Then, they lowered it, removed the cover and revealed the car, and more importantly the noise of its supercharged 5.2-liter V8.
This is Ford’s first new high-performance convertible in ages and also the most powerful convertible Mustang.
Production is set to begin with order banks opening in fall 2026 and deliveries arriving in spring 2027, with a rumored starting MSRP expected to land above the coupe’s base price of roughly $106,090.
