Ford has a message for owners of its new Mustang GTD supercar, which is that you shouldn’t drive the $325,000 car for a month after you take delivery of it.

The Mustang GTD is possibly the ultimate version of the muscle car, turning it into an all-American supercar, and its arrival has been hugely anticipated.

Yet Ford has stated that owners should wait a month before driving it, due to the paint that they’ve used on the GTD.

Not being able to drive something for a month due to paint might sound bizarre, but upon closer examination, it actually makes sense.

Why can’t you drive the Mustang GTD for a month?

The Blue Oval has said that paint-protection films (PPF) are why owners should wait to drive the new supercar.

Many who buy a high-performance car will apply PPF almost instantly.

This helps protect the paint from things like stone chips and dirt, without compromising the car’s appearance.

However, Ford states that the curing process for the GTD prevents owners from adding PPF for a month.

Due to the extensive use of carbon fiber on the car, the traditional curing process cannot happen on the supercar at the factory.

So, the brand is advising owners to wait 30 days for it to cure before applying the protection.

While you can still drive the car, why drive it and damage the paint before adding protection?

The GTD is one of Ford’s finest creations

Owners will, of course, be counting down those 30 days before they can drive their new purchase.

The Mustang GTD is unlike any other version of the car that Ford has produced previously.

It is a fully road-legal yet track-focused supercar, inspired by the recent Mustang GT3 racer.

Under the hood is a ludicrous 5.2-liter V8 engine producing 815hp and 664lb-ft of torque.

The supercar has already proven just how fast it can be.

In August 2024, Dirk Müller took the GTD around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6m 57.685s.

The car came back to the circuit in April 2025, going even quicker at 6m 52.072s.

It is a truly outrageous creation, and possibly the ultimate form of the famous Mustang.
