This Ford Thunderbird was abandoned by its owner for around 27 years.

But the car didn’t deserve to be left alone.

Despite all the years in the dark, the car was still in excellent condition when it was found and had an incredibly rare feature.

So, what made this car rare?

Well, the steering wheel is movable to make it easier for the driver to get in and out.

Ford Thunderbird with a ‘swing-away’ steering wheel

This interesting feature was called ‘swing-away’ and the Ford Thunderbird was one of the first cars to introduce it.

The story of this incredible barn find is covered on YouTube channel IMSTOKZE.

Now, this feature is not something a car must have, but it’s not about what’s needed.

It’s all about comfort and luxury, which this car offered in abundance.

The Ford Thunderbird was ahead of its time in certain areas.

Besides the moving steering wheel, the car also had electric windows rather than manual ones, which were exceptionally rare in cars from that era.

This car looks like a perfect match for a James Bond villain.

Perfect condition after 27 years of abandonment

From interior to exterior, the car was in perfect condition, and even the oil seemed fresh.

Despite being so old, the car had only hit around 30,000 miles, primarily because it had been resting in the barn for so long.

After a minor restoration – or rather a good service – this car could have been perfectly roadworthy.

The Ford Thunderbird was first introduced in 1955 as a two-seater convertible.

Over the years, it underwent several redesigns and technological upgrades, maintaining its iconic status in the American market.

Also appearing in several movies and TV shows, the car was favored by celebrities and car enthusiasts alike.

Driving one of these iconic muscle cars today is still as stylish as ever.
