These four EV haters were given electric cars to drive to see if they’d change their minds – and the ending will surprise you.
While electric cars have been increasingly popular in recent years, not everybody is counting themselves as a convert.
These four people counted themselves among the naysayer crowd.
But would taking out some EVs for a drive change their mind? Or would they feel vindicated in swearing off electric cars?

These EV haters were taken out for a drive – did they change their minds?
While the number of people counting themselves as EV drivers is growing, there are still some people holding out.
People have their reasons, and everyone’s entitled to their opinions, of course.
But can four EV haters have their minds changed after taking a drive in an electric car?
YouTube channel Electrifying decided to test this out by taking four EV skeptics out in two electric cars – the Skoda Enayq Coupe and the Elroq.

The four EV haters in question were Nik, Sarita, Jessica, and Stephan.
None of them minced their words on how they felt about electric cars.
“I think they’re a pointless waste of time, energy, effort, and money,” Sarita fumed.
“The range on these vehicles is poor,” Nik argued.

Could going out for a spin in an electric car change their tunes?
At first, there were plenty of positive comments coming forth, as Jessica described driving the Enayq Coupe as ‘gliding’ and Nik noted it felt ‘smooth’.
At least two people likened it to flying an airplane, which we can imagine is a weird sensation.

How was the Elroq received?
Well, Sarita likened it to driving her phone…which is certainly a comparison we haven’t heard before.
And we’re not too sure if that’s a compliment or not.
At the video’s conclusion, the four were asked whether they’d changed their positions.
“It was nice and quiet,” Sarita said, before indicating she felt a little more positive about EVs on the whole.

Jessica preferred the Elroq over the Enayq, but still felt a manual car was her ultimate preference.
Nik was probably the most effusive in his praise.
“[I felt] positive, the drive was amazing,” he said.
“I’m realizing now that the range is fine for me in the city, that’s made a massive swing for me.”
In fact, he’s already been doing some research on second-hand prices for the cars driven in the video.

At the videos’ end, they were all asked to raise their hand to indicate how much their opinions of EVs had gone up.
Nobody’s hand went down, but Nik was clearly the one who had changed his mind the most.
Jessica was about halfway, while Stephan and Sarita had only budged slightly.
The gas versus electric debate isn’t going anywhere anytime soon
Some debates never seem to end, do they?
Whether it’s Coke versus Pepsi, or Nike versus Adidas, there’s just some disputes that won’t be put to bed.
Gas and electric cars seems to be going in a very similar vein.
Both sides have made their arguments at length.
For advocates of electric, the lower costs of recharging compared to gas refills have often been cited.
And with one study finding that EVs were cleaner in practically every way, it’s easy to see why so many are switching over.
On the flip side, gas car owners switch out their cars less than their electric counterparts.
Electric cars have also been linked to higher rates of depreciation, as this Porsche Taycan owner knows all too well.
It’s not a debate that will be simmering down anytime soon.
But hey, we’re all entitled to our opinions and to make our case, right?
