This British man brought a barn find Fox body Ford Mustang back to life using a random everyday item.
YouTube channel Auto Funk had been working on getting this 1990 Ford Mustang GT up and running for a while.
It turns out that the fix was surprisingly simple and involved a random everyday item.
This will make you wonder if you’re not thinking outside the box when it comes to car repairs.

What everyday item did this YouTuber use to fix his Ford Mustang?
Having spent months trying to get the Ford Mustang up and running, Auto Funk realized one of the key problems – it was out of gas.
They’d been working on so many other components of the car that they’d overlooked the gas tank.
“We dropped the fuel tank, we changed the fuel sender, the fuel pump, the fuel filter, refitted the tank, and then we checked for fuel pressure at the injector rail,” Auto Funk explained.

“And at that point, the fuel pressure was fine, but it still wouldn’t run. So then we did a whole load of other stuff.
“We changed the injectors, we changed the distributor, the leads, the spark plugs, the ECU, the ignition switch.
“And in that time, if you mess around with old cars, you’ve probably experienced this yourself. It ran out of fuel, and we just completely overlooked it.”
But this wasn’t the only issue at play – the idle air control (IAC) valve actuator was broken.
What was the fix?

A band-aid, a ponytail holder, and a five pence coin.
That’s the equivalent of a five-cent coin in America.
But that was just a temporary fix – a new IAC valve arrived and they bolted it on.
It just goes to show that small things can make a difference – like this tiny 3D-printed part that made the Mustang GTD faster than every Ferrari.
There’s a ton of creative fixes out there, as this car detailer demonstrated with his trick to clean the inside windshield haze.
Did the car start up again?
They cranked the Ford Mustang, and the car idled successfully – though not perfectly by any means.
The YouTubers noted it was now ‘ticking over nicely’ and running on all eight cylinders.
Future plans included changing the tires, the wheels, looking at the brakes, and the ‘crusty’ fuel lines.

They replace a perished filler neck gasket between the tank and filler neck to prevent vapor/fuel leaks.
And then they drained the old oil and refilled it with Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 and used a Wix oil filter.
On a short test drive, they said the engine was ‘smooth’, although the idling was a bit erratic.
They believed the car needed time and another run to settle in.
