This futuristic ferry will glide across the Gulf of Finland carrying 650 cars and not burn a drop of gas.

Viking Line has announced the Viking Helios Ship concept and is looking for the right shipyard.

Whilst the project is still in its infancy at this stage, it’s positioned to become the world’s largest passenger-car ferry when completed.

And in addition to being huge, it’ll also be emission-free, as it will be battery powered.

You might be surprised to hear this, but there’s actually quite a few interesting ferries out there.

You have the see-thru ferry, which allows for a completely transparent way of travelling.

Then there’s this eco-friendly Japanese ferry Keyaki, featuring a ‘cutting-edge’ hull design.

Even when abandoned, ferries can prove to be intriguing.

One $85 million ferry has been left looking like a zombie playground.

And who could forget the Staten Island Ferry that Pete Davidson and Colin Jost bought?

Admittedly, we think they’d rather not remember – as they both called it the ‘dumbest’ thing they’d ever done.

Joining the roster of notable floatables is the Viking Helios, a concept set to be brought in by Viking Line.

The Finnish company is looking to have this operate between the capital Helsinki and the Estonia capital of Tallinn.

It’ll be the first electric ferry to join the company’s fleet.

Measuring in at 640 feet long and 98 feet wide, it’ll be capable of reaching a 23-knot speed.

That’s 26mph for you landlubbers.

The Helios is capable of carrying up to 2,000 passengers and 650 cars, and will be able to cross the Gulf of Finland in just over two hours.

At this point in time, this product is the early stages.

It’s hoped that Viking Line will have an all-electric fleet up and running by the end of the next decade.

The company has form for eco-conscious innovations within the maritime industry.

It launched a ship that ran on biogas – Viking Grace – over a decade ago, and followed up with the Viking Glory.

As a result, overall fleet emissions had been reduced by nearly a third over the past 15 years, autoevolution reported.
