Excited gamers have been obsessively tracking this giant $100M yacht in a bid to follow a legendary video game billionaire, Gabe Newell, to a shock new title announcement.

To some, Gabe Newell is Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and Mick Jagger rolled into one – the gaming rock star.

To others, he’s an unknown techy Jack Black lookalike – at least after his beardy glowup – who looks like he came into a small fortune mining bitcoin in the early Noughties.

But in hopes of seeing this billionaire announcing another instalment of his multi-million dollar game franchise, Half-Life, gamers are tracking his $100m private yacht to every shore.

It doesn’t get much bigger than Gabe Newell in gaming.

To put his wealth into perspective, he is currently worth $9.5 billion while the Rockstar Games CEO – developer of GTA – is only worth $170m. That’s quite an empire.

Having made his billions in the industry through developing some of the biggest games of all time, and Steam, a platform to sell them on, he now spends his 60s sailing the world on his armada of superyachts.

He owns five vessels in a $1b fleet:

The Dapple Yacht (220ft) is for fishing, the Rocinante (258ft), the Tranquility (300ft), and Project Y722 (364ft, still under construction), for pleasure and relaxation, and a smaller research boat named Pressure Drop (224ft).

But Newell has gamers running rings around the seven seas, as they have been following his ships in the hope that he might be set to announce his latest game: Half Life 3.

The hope was that Gabe Newell would appear at the Summer Games Fest in Los Angeles, which is a yearly showcase where the biggest developers announce games.

Savvy gamers found that his smaller luxury yacht, The Rocinante, pulled into the docks in California just days before the festival kicked off.

“Gabe’s Yacht just arrived in California, the state with SGF’s YouTube Theater,” one took to the Subreddit to say.

The Rocinante has nine cabins for 18 guests, a swimming pool and jacuzzi, a spa and salon, and a helicopter deck.

Half Life fans were left disappointed, though, as the video game billionaire made no appearance at SGF, leaving the anticipation for the trilogy title even higher.

Maybe the video game billionaire was checking in on Project Y722, his new $400m boat due for completion next year.

Tesla drivers might also be accustomed to some of his masterpieces, having supported Steam in its infotainment systems until last year.

But Half-Life fans will have to keep waiting…
