A Tesla driver has been questioning whether she should switch to a Rivian R1S Tri, claiming her EV has lost ‘a lot of value’.

In a clip shared on TikTok, the woman explained that she bought the Tesla back in 2022.

But just a few years on, she claimed it had significantly dropped in value.

She is now seriously considering trading it in for a Rivian R1S Tri, but wanted people’s opinions on the decision.

The Tesla owner said the car had ‘lost a lot of value’ so was considering a Rivian

It’s no secret that most cars depreciate pretty rapidly. Just take a look at this 2025 Toyota GR Corolla, which was bought new for $41,377 and sold a few weeks later for a lot less

However, when it comes to depreciation, EVs are worse hit than gas-powered vehicles

TikToker and Tesla owner greenemeansgo1 said she was happy to get her hands on a new Tesla back in 2022.

But that in just a few years its value had plummeted.

“It has lost a lot of value since I bought it. Like, a lot, a lot, a lot,” she said in the clip.

“So it’s really not worth holding on to.”

As a result, she was set on trading in her Tesla for something else and had been looking at the Rivian R1S Tri as an alternative.

“I decided finally I’m going to bite the bullet and I’m going to trade it in and I’m upside down or whatever… I’m about to buy a Rivian and I’m scared,” she added before asking her followers if they had any advice.

In response to her clip, several happy Rivian owners chipped in to urge her to make the switch.

“We have a 2025 R1S Tri we bought in March. We absolutely LOVE it,” one person replied.

“We had 3 Teslas…and our Rivian was delivered last week,” another commented.

“It’s great. Minor differences, but most features line up the same.”

A study found that this Tesla model dropped the most in value

While EVs are notably quicker to depreciate than their gas-powered counterparts, there’s one specific electric car that fares worse than the rest.

A recent study by Boohoff Law looked at how much value EVs lost over 10 years, by comparing the manufacturers’ suggested retail price back in 2015 and comparing it to the average resale price in 2025.

The Tesla Model S topped the list, dropping from $95,600 in 2015 to $9,800 in 2025.
