This German billionaire has spent $29 million on a 146-foot superyacht designed as a floating tribute to the movie Top Gun.
Tom Schröder is such a big fan of the 1986 smash hit that he named the ship after Tom Cruise’s character – Lt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.
This superyacht is a perfect blend of cool and sophistication, with black side wings adorning the top deck.
And the tributes to the blockbuster movie don’t stop there, as the interior also contains a few nods.

The Top Gun superyacht that would take your breath away
Billionaires have a lot of money to spare, and what better way to spend it than on a superyacht?
These magnificent vessels have long been the playthings of wealthy people, including Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Taylor Swift.
We’ve seen a ton of them over the years.

There have even been some inspired by Hollywood movies. Take this $160 million ‘Master Yoda’ yacht, which contained Star Wars themed rooms, for example.
In a similar vein, there is also a Top Gun inspired superyacht, owned by German billionaire Tom Schröder.
Admittedly, yachts don’t automatically come to mind when you think of a movie that’s all about planes.
But then again, do you think about being out on the sea when you think of Star Wars?
With these yacht themes, anything goes.
And in the case of the $29 million Maverick, the theme works perfectly.
For Schröder, the 1986 movie means a lot to him.

He’s watched it countless times and even named one of his sons after Pete Mitchell, the protagonist played by Tom Cruise.
You know, the guy who wore sunglasses and told everyone he felt ‘the need for speed.’
But taking to the high seas in a boat named after said character is taking fandom to a whole new level, no?
And it doesn’t end there. The yacht’s tenders – the smaller craft that run between a yacht and another ship – are also named for Top Gun characters.
That includes Val Kilmer’s ‘Iceman’, ‘Viper’, played by Tom Skerritt, and Maverick’s best friend, ‘Goose’, who was played by Anthony Edwards.

Taking a closer look at the Maverick
Even beyond the name recognition that comes with the boat, this yacht boasts some cool features.
It has an 8.5-inch ice belt to withstand the impact of ice in colder waters, and a A-frame crane which can lift up to 4.5 tonnes.
Up to 13 guests can stay on this boat at any given time, alongside seven crew members.

Capable of doing 6,800 nautical miles and achieving a top speed of 15.7 knots [18mph], it’s hardly taking anyone into the Danger Zone, but who said yachting was all about speed?
Throughout the interior, there are nods to the film, including posters from the original movie and the sequel, which was released in 2022.
The poster for the former has been signed by several people, and we can’t say for certain whether or not Cruise himself is one of the signatories.

We’ll let you be the judge of that.
In short, this is a epic superyacht that anybody would be lucky to set sail on.
But for now, it’s the prized possession of Schröder and his family.
The entrepreneur made his money through Solarhybrid AG, a company that specializes in photovoltaic power plants.
Although the company shut in 2012, he went on to set up Seven Miles Group and Wishcard Technologies Group.
Since 2021, he has overseen the FIL Bros. Family Office, which deals with investments in the maritime and electric mobility sectors.
