The Koenigsegg Regera is one of the most important cars the brand has ever made.
Regera, meaning “to reign”, represented the Swedish brand’s first-ever hybrid hypercar.
Something people might not know about the car is that it came with something called ‘Ghost Mode’.
And, with just two clicks of the key, something amazing unfolds before your very eyes.

Koenigsegg founder flabbergasted by EV performance
By now, most of you are pretty familiar with Christian von Koenigsegg.
The Swede, who established the hypercar marque that bears his name, is something of a car genius.
However, it was another brand’s EV that led to the creation of the Regera.
In 2023, Mr von Koenigsegg, like many others, decided to buy himself a Tesla Model S P85+.
He found himself extremely impressed with the instant power delivery that the EV world offers.
Specifically, due to the lack of turbo lag, the car was able to provide incredible performance.

Desiring to combine this experience with the traditional Koenigsegg platform, Christian got to work.
When creating the Regera, he developed a technology called the Koenigsegg Direct-Drive (KDD) system.
This is important, because the KDD system effectively eliminated the need for a traditional transmission.
Instead, the Regera would come with a single-speed, fixed gear transmission.
Regera revels in reviews from the masses
Upon its release in March 2016, the Koenigsegg Regera sold almost all of its 85 units.
It also received extremely good reviews, with many citing the KDD as a hugely positive change.
The Regera produced an incredible 1,782HP.

This staggering power comes from a 5.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 combined with three electric motors.
The first of the three electric motors sits on the crankshaft, while the other two sit on the rear wheels.
When the idea for hypercar was conceived, it was also designed as a luxury grand touring car.
And it received much positivity for that as well, with the leather interior being praised for its luxury.
“Ghost Mode” can be activated – and it is cool
As it turns out, there’s a sweet secret feature that came included with the Regera.
Here’s how it works. Press down twice on the bottom button of your key.
It might seem as if nothing is happening, but give it a couple of seconds.
Now, you’re wondering if you somehow stumbled onto the set of Transformers.

The rear wing and trunk area begin to lift up, followed by the hood at the front.
Then the dihedral doors and wing mirrors lift and open out, too.
It’s a little bit of a Koenigsegg party trick, but an extremely cool one at that.
If you’ll excuse us, we think we can hear the Autobots coming.
