The 9,000lbs GMC Hummer EV has just humiliated a bunch of supercars in a Texas drag race despite the electric pickup truck having a handicap.
The Hummer EV is an impressive vehicle with plenty of power, but it’s also heavy, weighing around 9,000lbs so it isn’t exactly an agile beast.
However, a video from GM has shown it taking the fight to some supercars at the Texas Motor Speedway.
It is a bit tongue-in-cheek, as the Hummer was also being used as a camera car, but it was a good showing of the pickup truck’s acceleration.

How fast was the GMC Hummer EV off the line?
The video opens with the supercars lining up for a 0-60mph run against the EV.
The lineup includes a Ford GT, a Ferrari, a Porsche, a Dodge Hellcat, and an Aston Martin.
Initially, it looks like the Ford and Ferrari were the quickest off the line.
But GMC and GM then showed the camera vehicle as a GMC Hummer.
It had sprinted ahead of the supercars, taking a lead over what it was filming to beat them to 60mph.

This was aimed at poking a bit of fun at people who might drive a supercar.
Supercars would, of course, outdrag the Hummer eventually as they got up to speed.

The electric pickup kept beating the supercars
In the video, we see multiple attempts by the truck to beat its rivals off the line.
It is perhaps little surprise that it can do so with up to 1,160hp under the hood.
GM also decided to move the Hummer one car-length back to give the supercars a chance.
But in a classic piece of advertising, the pickup still outdragged the other cars.
GMC framed it as if they didn’t know what was going to happen.

“To look over and see yourself being overtaken by a Hummer is a pretty surreal experience… with four people in it and cameras on it,” one of the supercar drivers said.
It is actually a very clever piece of film, and it does show just how powerful the EV is.
Whether it could beat the supercars over a longer run is another question entirely.
