Google Maps is great – but it has its flaws
Today’s story is a very practical and helpful one.
It’s especially helpful if you are a regular user of Google Maps.
Like most navigation apps, Google Maps can be extremely helpful.
But it very much can also come with its downsides.
For one thing, most people don’t like the fact that it tracks you.
Others have also found that it can be a major drain on your battery.

And, clearly, another person agrees with those shortcomings.
Jack Wallen is a writer over at ZDNET.
Like most people, Jack used to be a regular user of Google Maps.
That was the case until he discovered the aforementioned two flaws with it.
Could CoMaps be the ultimate alternative?
So, what was Jack, and many others, to do?
Well, it turns out he discovered a free alternative called CoMaps.
It turns out that CoMaps is an open-source map app, available for both Android and iOS.
The app is also very different in other ways.
For one thing, it allows you to plan routes offline without an internet connection.
It also has much less battery drain than Google Maps – and it doesn’t track you, either.
The app itself is fairly new, having been released on app stores last July 3rd.
Of course, it also works very differently to the mainstream offering.

For one thing, when it comes to CoMaps, you download maps for the specific locations you need.
This is what allows you to use the app offline.
Once you’ve downloaded what you need, there’s nothing else you need to do.
It even works very similarly to Google Maps, so there’s no real adjustment needed.
Jack ended the piece by noting that CoMaps has become his new default navigation app.
And it is easy to see why it could become the go-to choice for many others, too.
