Pro model Google Pixel phones come with a super handy thermometer that many owners completely ignore, but others have found pretty cool uses for the feature.
The thermometer feature comes on the high-end Pro models from the Google Pixel 8 Pro through to the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL.
The Thermometer app works by using a built-in infrared temperature sensor on the back of the phone.
A recent Reddit post asked Pixel owners what they use the thermometer for, and it brought up some interesting answers.

The ‘forgotten’ Google Pixel Pro feature
Smartphones are more useful than ever, with new features and functions added all the time.
Today, you can do everything from opening your car door to measuring real-world objects all on your phone.
The Google Pixel Pro range has added another very useful little feature in the form of a thermometer.

In a recent post on Reddit, one Pixel Pro owner wanted to know how it was ‘contributing’ to people’s lives, and the answers were a bit of a mixed bag.
Many of the folks admitted to never using the feature, with some saying they had completely forgotten it was there.
“I’ll be honest, I’ve never even opened the app to use it,” one said.
“I’ve never used it, and I don’t plan on using it. I completely forgot it’s on the phone altogether,” a second said.
While one user said he’d even go as far as disabling the app completely.
Some said the thermometer should be ditched in favor of a LiDAR sensor, and one Pixel owner said he’d rather it come with a heart rate monitor.
But others had found some very handy uses for it
However, there were also a lot of Pixel Pro users who made the most of its built-in thermometer and shared some cool real-world examples of when it had come in handy.

One person said that while staying in a hotel, the air conditioning unit broke, leaving the room unbearably hot.
He was able to keep a log of the room’s temperature throughout the stay and then used it to get a partial refund for the room.
Others said they regularly used it when they or loved ones felt unwell to keep an eye on fevers.
It also proved useful around the home, with a Redditor saying he had used it to check where heat was escaping from, and a handful of people confirming it was great for cooking.
And the uses didn’t end there.
“It’s very handy for mechanic/automotive work,” said another.
“Seeing if brakes, bearings, and exhaust runners are all at the same temp.”
