Car lover's grandma makes one of the wildest supercar spots as she sees Ferrari F40 driving down rural street

Somebody’s grandma spotted a Ferrari F40 in the wild in Germany and people on Reddit went crazy.

That was partly because the pictures were great but also because this is no ordinary F40.

It belongs to a very special owner.

The odd license plates, for example, are a dead giveaway.

A rare find, but maybe not so rare

Considering how valuable and hard to drive it is, we tend to think of the Ferrari F40 as rare.

But even though this supercar is indeed rare by all measurable standards, they are spotted ‘in the wild’ quite regularly.

Not bad for a vehicle that’s famously unforgiving to drive and comes with no ABS, no traction control, and no power steering.

While some of these cars spotted are not actually real – they are just kit cars and fake cars – the number of actual Ferrari F40s being used almost daily is striking.

There’s a guy in the US, for example, who treats it like a workhorse.

On this occasion, someone’s grandma spotted a red example somewhere in Germany.

And of course Reddit did the thing it always does.

What Redditors had to say about this Ferrari

When a Redditor who goes by SuburbanDaredevil143 shared pictures that their grandma took of this Ferrari, people in the comment section immediately identified the exact car and therefore its owner.

The F40 isn’t exactly like the 250 GTO – as in, it’s not like every single one is accounted for – but there’s still a relatively comprehensive track record of who owns which F40.

This, apparently, belongs to a museum in Germany.

“According to the license plate, this is the F40 that’s usually on display at the Sinsheim Technical Museum. There are tons of pictures of that exact car online,” one Redditor commented.

“Grandma knows a special car when she sees one,” wrote another.

Others called here a ‘legend’ for taking the time to take the pictures for her grandchild.

Another Redditor added even more context.

“Ah, it seems that the car belongs to Hermann Layher. He is the so of the founder of the Sinsheim Museum. Good spot,” they added.

A third Reddit user explained why the plates look odd and unusual.

“You don’t need to switch to eu-plates if you buy a car that has the old DIN ones equipped,” they added.
