The Greek Police once formed a secret until of rally drivers named Sigma Group to chase down street racers with the fastest cars that they impounded.
This sounds like every Fast & Furious story rolled into one.
With ten-second cars from impounds, rally drivers recruited as cops, and high-octane incidents, Sigma Group had it all.
So this is the secret Greek Police force named Sigma Group that harnessed European engineering excellence to catch baddies.

Sigma Group was an elite rally unit for the Greek Police
The award for the coolest Police car lineup certainly doesn’t go to Greece anymore.
That honor lies with the UAE, whose fleet of Mansory-bulked SUVs and Lamborghini supercars takes the gold medal.
But back in the 90s, the Greek Police was as strong as anyone, thanks to a secret force called Sigma Group.
Highlighted on Facebook, the fleet used to include street racers like a Porsche 911 Turbo, a BMW M5, an Alfa Romeo 164 Turbo, and a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16.
The fastest cars were often impounded and re-imagined as police cars, decal’d up with the sheriff’s logo.

Many of the Greek Police officers used the fastest cars to compete in the Panhellenic Rally Championship too, having undergone strict training.
The Sigma Group was reportedly quite successful in shutting down street racers and unsolicited races, proving to be a thorn in their side for a few years.
Here for a good time, not a long time
Unfortunately for us gearheads, this Greek Police unit is no longer in operation. It was reportedly shut down in 2005 due to high costs and damaged cars.
But recently, local news reports claimed that it could be set to return with a completely new set of wheels.
Nowadays, the Greek Police has one of the ‘least scary’ cars within its force, which is neither fast nor furious.

Many police forces have been making some remarkable choices in the new tech age.
Specifically, Indonesia is going all RoboCop on its locals by employing humanoids in the Police.
But for now, Greece is stuck with a Ford 500e and few ways to deter unwanted street racers.
