These guys opened up a storage unit in Virginia that had been closed since 1999 and found a long-forgotten muscle car sitting inside.

YouTube channel WD Detailing took on the task of retrieving the muscle car from its dormant state.

Considering it’d been hidden away for over a quarter of a century, it wasn’t looking too shabby.

But there was work to be done to get it looking its best again.

The muscle car had been sitting in a storage locker for over 25 years

When it comes to finding cars in unexpected places, storage lockers have good form for surprising us.

Sure, we’ve seen a lot of barn finds over the years, whether it be muscle cars or a Jaguar XJ220.

But storage units have provided their own treasures too.

You may recall the Californian who spent $750 on one and ended up with a Volkswagen for his troubles.

Or how about the man who shelled out $4,000 and discovered a huge car sitting inside?

There’s automotive gems to be discovered in these unassuming lockers.

WD Detailing found some pretty remarkable when they took a look at a lot in Virginia.

After initially attempting to open the wrong locker, they found the correct unit and pulled up the shutter.

What greeted them was a 442 muscle car, coated in a layer of dust and dirt.

Considering that it’d been there for 26 years, it wasn’t looking too bad.

Let’s just say that we’ve seen a lot worse – like this rusty Mustang that sat for 30 years.

The inside of the car was looking a little shabby, but nothing a good cleaning couldn’t sort out.

“The interior’s nice, no rips or tears in the leather.

“All white on the inside, this white will come back on the inside,” one of the hosts said.

The white was looking a little more grey in its current state, but it wasn’t unsalvageable.

How could this car cleaned up?

The car’s current owner, Trish, explained that the car was her husband’s while he was in the Navy.

It was now being gifted to a family friend – but would obviously need some sprucing up before that could happen.

Back at the shop, the WD team got it cleaned up, removing the blue coating on the white-lettered tires.

Seeing the interior get cleaned up was a real joy, with the floors getting special attention.

The dirt of the seats was wiped away, restoring the white that was hidden underneath.

Unfortunately, there were still some issues remaining.

“This paint is roached, I don’t know when it was repainted but it was, and it definitely wasn’t repainted very well,” the channel host explained

“We have exposed base paint across the whole entire car, we have rust that’s kind of bleeding through.

“The only part of the car that turned out nice was everything below this body line,” he went on.

As such, he decided not to polish the car as he feared it would make the car look worse.

On the whole, the after result still looked a million times better than what came before it.
