A modified-beyond-recognition 928 Porsche has been listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
At $14,500, it’s a relative steal for the 1981 grand tourer.
But the car has been altered, with many of its most iconic features removed.
Porsche purists—or anyone who doesn’t like seeing a Frankenstein version of a classic car—are not impressed.

The Modified Porsche 928
While the 928 is not Porsche’s most iconic make, it’s still an undeniable part of the automaker’s history.
Just 61,056 units were produced over 17 years.
Despite this, the sleek and sporty model has a loyal fanbase.
This white 1981 model was just listed on Facebook Marketplace for $14,500.
This isn’t the first time the 928 has inspired some enthusiastic and perhaps questionable builds.
A company in Brazil once made a compact city car version of it, so small it produced just 65 horsepower.
One man took it further, replacing his 928’s engine with a Boeing T50 Turboshaft helicopter engine.
But this mod doesn’t appear to have enhanced the car in any way.
“It looks like a five-year-old’s paper mache art project,” one commenter said.
A classic car transformed
This owner took the factory standard and completely disregarded it.
He reupholstered the seats with houndstooth, a pattern more commonly associated with the 911 from that era.
Next, he replaced its iconic pop-up headlights with long, modern ones, notably changing its profile.
He also popped on a square bumper and a black grille, which, to add insult to injury, has been installed badly.
One of the defining features of the 928 is its aerodynamic and muscular back profile.
This has been replaced with a clumsy decklid, characterless taillights, and a chunky bumper.
It’s unclear whether this is one of the rare Cabriolet 928s built by independent tuners in the 1980s, or if this owner did the entire job himself.
Either way, you can’t argue with his description; this car is ‘one of a kind’.
And maybe that’s a good thing.
