The curiosity of these explorers made them venture into the hidden underground tunnels of an abandoned airbase, where they came across some amazing relics of the past.

The place they explored was the Željava Air Base, once a top-secret Yugoslav military site.

Also code named as ‘Object 505’, the airbase played a major role during the Cold War, showing off Yugoslavia’s military strength.

However, today, the place is isolated and abandoned, but it still reminds us of the past.

Hidden underground tunnels of abandoned airbase explored

The exploration of these underground tunnels at the airbase was documented on YouTube by Broken Window Theory.

Located on the border between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Željava Air Base is a fascinating yet dangerous place.

The tunnels were massive, once home to around 80 MiG-21 fighter jets and over 1,000 soldiers.

Before heading inside, the explorers got permission from border police to visit the area.

At the entrance of the airbase, they found an old Douglas C-47 plane that had been abandoned for years.

The explorers also showed the five huge runways, which are now quiet and empty.

Inside the tunnels, they found relics from the past. Among them were piles of junk vehicles, now completely destroyed and unrecognizable.

A popular tourist attraction

They also discovered old pipes used for refueling jets, along with discarded boots and other items left behind.

Many of these relics have been looted by metal recyclers over the years.

The explorers revealed that the Yugoslav military had set off 50 tons of explosives to prevent the airbase from falling into enemy hands.

The explosion was so powerful that it sent shockwaves to nearby towns.

Today, the abandoned airbase has become a popular destination for tourists who are fascinated by history and the remnants of the past.

It stands as a reminder of a bygone era.
