This man built a 100-foot mega yacht in his backyard – only for it to be stolen by the Mexican cartel.
It’s a story that sounds stranger than fiction, doesn’t it?
But for Clyde Stires, this remarkable set of events was his reality.
Sitting down for an interview with his nephew, he detailed the events that led to his yacht allegedly being seized by the Mexican cartel and going missing for 10 days.

How this man’s homemade 100ft mega yacht ended up in the hands of the Mexican Cartel
For Clyde, this magnificent self-made yacht was a labor of love.
“I sold everything to put that money together to build the boat,” he told his nephew.
Clyde wasn’t a billionaire by any stretch, so boat yards were too pricey for his budget – hence why he opted to build in his backyard.

Five years later, the boat was finished, in a similar timeframe to this 249-foot yacht.
That alone would be worthy of a story: a man building a huge boat on his own property and using his own resources.
But that’s not where this story ends.
One day, while sitting in a restaurant, Clyde received a frantic phone call from his secretary.

“She said ‘They’re stealing your boat’,” he recalled.
“I look on the security cameras and I saw them coming onboard. My crew were scared.
“They took the phones away from all my crew. All my crew were basically kidnapped – all five of them.”
Fortunately, the crew members would soon be returned to shore before the boat went missing for 10 days.
In that time, Clyde was desperately working to retrieve it with the help of the American consulate.

How was the boat returned to Clyde?
An appeal for information was posted online, which prompted a boat user to reach out, as it’d anchored up next to his.
It was near San Patricio that the boat was finally found, where the Mexican Navy was dispatched to retrieve it.
Clyde doesn’t know what went down when the Navy boarded the vessel, but he claimed that everyone bar the cartel’s captain ended up being released.

The boat would be taken into custody, meaning Clyde wouldn’t get it back immediately.
By the time he was reunited with it, he decided he didn’t feel safe in Mexico anymore, and he decided to leave.
