Competing in the Olympics requires athletes and animals competing to be cared for when traveling overseas, and when it comes to horses, it turns out that the Boeing 727 once played a part in keeping the creatures safe.

From keeping the animals fed and watered to even ensuring that sleep is possible, the process of caring for the animals has to be done right.

But fear not, as certain planes are well-equipped to keep the animals safe and sound, ready to compete.

In fact, the plane used has a special nickname, none other than Air Horse One.

Giddy-up and all aboard this modified Boeing 727

Boeing is a plane manufacturer that we’ve all heard of, but forget the aircraft fleet just carrying humans, it turns out some other special passengers hop aboard too.

Much like us, some animals need modes of transport, which is where Boeing comes in very handy.

But, even though there was once a Boeing 727 nicknamed Air Horse One, there is reportedly more than one aircraft used to make sure the horses get to places in one piece.

Tex Sutton described itself as ‘the home of Air Horse One’.

“Flight crew are trained to be sensitive to the travel needs of our equine passengers and operate the aircraft accordingly, avoiding steep ascents and descents, steering clear of adverse weather conditions,” explained the company.

However, reports suggest that the Boeing 727 is now retired, and other planes are also used for animals to cross the Atlantic in style.

Many Boeing models and even an Airbus are reportedly used to transport Olympic horses, with the animals settling into ‘jet stalls’ equipped with food and water and a place for them to have a nap.

“The Jet Stall size is dependent on the level of comfort you wish to provide, much like flying ‘Coach’, ‘Business Class’ or ‘First Class’,” explained Dutta, a company that facilitates horse transport.

You’ve heard of Air Horse One, but what about Air Force One?

Now we’ve seen how the finest equine creatures travel in style across the world, but what about people in power?

One of the most famous aircraft models is Air Force One, which is used by the President of the United States.

Qatari royals recently gifted a $400M Boeing 747 to be converted into the new Air Force One, but it could cost as much as $1,000,000.

But, as you’d expect, the very first Air Force One looks a lot different from the most recent Boeing that was approved, with President Eisenhower first taking to the air in the 50s.
