Hyundai Motor Group has proved there’s more to the company than just cars, as it unveiled its very first mass-produced mobility robot: MobED
Robotics is big business at the moment, with big names like Tesla, Boston Dynamics, and even Amazon getting involved.
This week, Hyundai debuted its Mobile Eccentric Droid – known as MobED.
And the company says it will go on sale soon.

Here’s what the Hyundai MobED robot can do
Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics LAB first unveiled the robot as a concept at CES 2022.
Since then, the fully autonomous bot has been ‘refined into a production-ready’ model complete, with artificial intelligence.

Hyundai says the MobED was created from a ‘groundbreaking approach’ to robot functionality that is made up of three distinct pillars: Adaptive Mobility (hardware), Intuitive Autonomy (software), and Infinite Journey (applications).
While all that may sound a little abstract, the company says that in real terms, it means the MobED can offer precise posture control as well as seamless terrain adaptability from indoors to outdoors.
The bot has a large touchscreen controller, which is designed to simplify autonomous navigation technology and make it accessible for all users.
To make its way around the world, the MobED uses AI-powered sensors alongside LiDAR and cameras, so it can recognize and avoid any obstacles that might appear in its path in real-time.
Hyundai has built the robot on a customizable modular platform, which it says makes it perfect for a wide range of industries and applications, from video production to logistics.
“Beyond a simple mobility platform, MobED offers a next-generation solution adaptable to diverse industries and everyday life,” Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB Vice President Dong Jin Hyun said.
“MobED will set new standards in the global robotics market and accelerate a future where humans and robots coexist.”
Two different versions will be released, and they’re coming soon
Two versions of the MobED will be launched: the Basic and the Pro.

The Basic bot is a little under 17 inches in height and can carry up to 125lbs.
The Pro is a bit taller, at 25.5 inches, and can’t carry quite as much weight, with a maximum payload of 104lbs.
However, the Pro offers a fully autonomous self-driving system, whereas the Basic model requires manual operation via a remote control.
The MobED is production-ready right now, and Hyundai says both models are scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2026.
