Illinois man took a $825 chance on a locked storage unit and found a 'beauty' muscle car inside

This guy in Illinois took a $825 chance on a locked storage unit and ended up with an Oldsmobile Cutlass, a muscle car we sometimes forget about.

The car was in decent condition, but not great.

It clearly needed a lot of work.

This actually begs a question, and the YouTuber wasn’t sure how to answer.

The guy behind the Adventures of Jim YouTube channel spent $825 on a storage unit in Illinois, sight unseen.

What he found inside was an ancient Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The body shows some rust damage, as does the 350 engine, which appears to have been modified with new heads, an Edelbrock intake, a new carburetor, and a new exhaust.

Elsewhere, the car also features chrome valve covers and 16-inch wheels.

The interior is in good condition, though.

The fabric, which is probably velour, looks vintage-y, but not ruined.

Like a grandma’s couch that’s been there since the 1950s.

The problem for Jim is that he genuinely can’t tell whether this was a good deal or not.

In his view, the wheels and engine alone are worth the purchase price.

But that’s in theory because, in practice, selling those components is never easy.

Jim also understandably considered restoring the car.

In a way, muscle car fans are probably rooting for this outcome because some might argue there aren’t enough Cutlasses in the world.

The Oldsmobile Cutlass is exactly the sort of car that regularly ends up in junkyards or abandoned in barns.

Oldsmobile built a long list of interesting cars in its day, from the iconic 442 to the long-forgotten Incas concept.

But, at the end of the day, when people think Oldsmobile, they automatically think Cutlass.

Just like Ford with the Mustang or Chevrolet with the Camaro or Corvette.

So fingers crossed the Olds is restored to its former glory soon.
