In Oregon, it’s illegal to improperly open your door and leave it wide open.

America has lots of state-specific road laws, and some can be quite unusual.

But, in the Western region of the US, there’s been a crackdown on reckless road users and their doors.

Because, in one state, it’s against the rules to open your door wide and leave it agape.

It’s illegal to improperly open your door and leave it open wide

In many US states, rules regarding road safety differ hugely depending on the state you’re driving in.

From honking horns to washing cars and even passing tests, rules can be harsh and strict, with big consequences at stake for failing to abide by the rules.

In Oregon, officials have gotten strict when it comes to the careless opening of car doors. In fact, they’ve even written a law that makes it illegal to improperly open your door and leave it wide open.

Yup, in the Beave State, it’s now illegal to open the door on the side of traffic or the sidewalk for a long period of time.

In fact, to open a door legally, it must be reasonably safe, or you’re breaking the rules.

Sounds self-explanatory enough, right?

Well, the small print states that opening a door is improper if the perpetrator:

“Leaves a door open on the side of a vehicle available to traffic, or to pedestrians or bicycles on sidewalks or shoulders for a period of time longer than necessary to load or unload passengers.”

So, you now need to ensure that you choose your time wisely and safely to avoid landing yourself a category D traffic violation on your record and a $90 fine.

A door can lead to a realm of possibilities in the car world

Different features of a car are important in their own ways, but a door can lead to the inside of some pretty cool cabins.

For example, doors can open in different ways for a variety of reasons, like this $3.5 million Ferrari, which looks like you’re breaking in, which you can watch at the top of the page.

Plus, we bet you didn’t know that Arnold Schwarzenegger drives around LA in his doorless Hummer H1, and there’s actually a reason for the lack of doors.

But if Schwarzenegger were to put doors on his Humvee and fancied a trip to Oregon, he’d have to be very careful where he got out, thanks to the new door-opening rules and regulations stated.
