An EV owner has revealed that his Indian-made car, a Mahindra XEV 9E, draws as much attention on the streets as a Lamborghini, while costing only $38,000.
The driver, who shared photos and specs of his new ride on the subreddit r/electricvehicles, recently took delivery of the Mahindra XEV 9E, a sleek electric SUV built in India.
Priced at roughly $38,000 in the Indian market, the vehicle boasts high-end styling and features usually reserved for luxury models.
Its combination of performance, tech, and value has sparked excitement both in India and abroad.

This Indian-made car has plenty of features
The Mahindra XEV 9E is no ordinary EV.
It boasts a top speed of 125 mph, and offers six driving modes: default, range mode, everyday mode, race mode, power-saving mode, and snow mode.
Inside, the cabin rivals premium European brands with three digital displays, customizable ambient lighting, cooled seats, a moonroof, and wireless charging stations.

The car looks like it comes from the future, and it has impressed both the online EV community and those who have spotted the SUV in person.
“This car gets as much attention as a Lamborghini,” the owner said, noting that people frequently approached him with questions at charging stations and parking lots.

Comments on the original post were equally enthusiastic.
Some pointed out that the car was a steal, at only $38,000, while others expressed their surprise that the luxurious-looking vehicle was an Indian-made car.
The Indian EV market is growing slowly
India’s EV market has been developing at a slower pace, especially compared to China.
After all, a Chinese EV company recently overtook Tesla in terms of global sales, solidifying the country’s dominance in the EV market.
In fact, business is so good, that a certain Chinese EV CEO told buyers to buy a Tesla instead, due to long waiting times for the Chinese EVs.
Models like the Mahindra XEV 9E could help accelerate the adoption of EVs in India.

Many buyers in India are motivated not just by performance and style, but also by cost savings.
Since electric cars require far less maintenance, it can be dramatically cheaper to run, especially when charged using home solar power.
Environmental benefits add another layer of appeal.
Studies have shown that EVs produce significantly less lifetime pollution than diesel-powered vehicles, helping owners reduce their carbon footprints.
