Take a look at this incredible futuristic-looking Mercedes pod car that was found abandoned in a junkyard in Atlanta.

The unusual egg-shaped vehicle was spotted by a Reddit user who shared some snaps of the find online.

The vehicle was discovered in the ‘Greater Atlanta’ area, according to the guy who found it, which would make sense given that Mercedes-Benz has its US headquarters in that area.

The one-off Mercedes S Class MBUX Seat Exhibit began life back in August 2020.

The futuristic concept was designed to showcase Mercedes tech

It was designed to showcase various bits of technology – such as Mercedes infotainment systems – and allow the public to get a first glimpse at the interior of the upcoming S Class.

Cast your mind back to the summer of 2020, and you may remember that Mercedes was yet to unveil its new S Class to the world, but thanks to the pod, people could still get a feel for the car, without having the full design revealed.

Clever, right?

Outwardly, the vehicle looks quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen before with distinctive silver-colored egg-shaped bodywork and plenty of dark glass.

Taking a closer look inside the concept, you’ll find some black leather sculptured seats and lots of tech including several touchscreens.

It’s unclear why it was left in a junkyard in Atlanta

However, what you won’t find inside is a steering wheel.

As the pod was specifically designed as a way to show off new tech, it was never supposed to be driven, therefore there’s no powertrain, wheels, or steering wheel.

It’s unclear when or why the poor old pod got left in a junkyard in Atlanta, but the photos appear to show that it’s still in pretty solid condition.

Its exterior still looks fresh and clean, despite being exposed to the elements, while its all-important interiors look just as sharp with no apparent fading to the seats or dashboard.

It appears that prior to being left at the junkyard all Mercedes branding had been removed – but that wasn’t enough to stop car-loving internet sleuths from working out exactly what the pod was.

Smart work.
