Is the Fitbit Charge 5 the best fitness and sleep tracker for 2022?

Every year smartwatch makers all over the world seem to launch a new product, some are good, but others are no more than a redesign of their predecessor with a new name.

So how far has the all-new Fitbit Charge 5 come since the previous generation Charge 4 and is it worth the money?

The Fitbit Charge 5 is the brand’s latest flagship wearable product – and it’s much more stylish than the Charge 4 from 2020.

Its display is two times brighter and has a whole host of new features including an ECG app for heart health and an EDA Scan app for stress management.

What makes the Fitbit Charge 5 so good is its simple yet functional interface allowing for ease of use and comfort which is better than its Apple-branded rivals, in our opinion.

The main features of the Charge 5 are sleep tracking, fitness tracking, a step counter, heart and stress management, built-in GPS, and a whole variety of health metrics to keep you in tune with your body.

This is already more impressive than some of its pricier rivals.

Tracking your fitness is incredibly simple as it automatically detects your workout.

Once a workout is complete, the watch shows you lots of stats via the app on your phone.

These include duration, active zone minutes, average heart rate, calories burned, and an overview of the impact it has had on your day.

This is far more data than what the Apple Watch offers via the Activity app on an iPhone.

Another bonus with the Charge 5 is its battery life that is quoted to last up to seven days and with testing, lives up to that promise quite easily, depending on use and brightness and GPS settings etc.

One thing that walks hand in hand with battery life is the ability to track your sleep, which the watch does very well. This works by monitoring your breathing which, in turn, works out your estimated oxygen variation. It also tracks the four different stages of sleep; awake, REM, light, and deep. Then it gives you an overall score at the end. This feature is particularly useful for those who wish to improve their quality of sleep.

The Fitbit Charge 5 comes in black, gold or silver and with an array of different strap colour options. Each device comes with a year’s limited warranty and a 45-day money back guarantee.

At the time of writing, you can pick up a Charge 5 on Amazon UK for £141.50 and that comes with a six-month Fitbit premium membership.

This can be paid in instalments of £24.44 over six months too.
