Jaguar once launched its E-PACE SUV by throwing it into an incredible 270-degree barrel roll, and it has to be seen to be believed.
The British manufacturer is gearing up for a new era as it launches its latest electric car, but in 2017 it did something remarkable with its then-brand-new E-PACE SUV.
It managed to set a new Guinness World Record with a barrel roll of the Jaguar, completing a stunning 270-degree corkscrew maneuver.
Behind the wheel was legendary British stunt driver Terry Grant, and Jaguar shared the footage in a viral video on its YouTube channel.
How Jaguar achieved the barrel roll
The world-record attempt was completed at the ExCeL arena in London.
Thanks to its sheer size, this is one of just a handful of venues that could accommodate the attempt.
In fact, it needed a 160-metre run-up and run-off to do the 15-metre leap safely.
Jaguar spent months analysing and testing the jump and the car to make sure it was fine-tuned.
It had to ensure that the jump was done at exactly the right speed.
CAD models were used to create the jump before it was actually built in real life.
The jump itself involved a G-Force of 5.5g and a 270-degree twist with a 160-meter run-up.
The jump was truly spectacular
There is no denying just how spectacular the jump itself was.
It was the final test of the E-PACE before it went on sale.
So it was the perfect way to show off what the new SUV could do.
The car was able to achieve a Guinness World Record in the process.
It took home the title of the furthest barrel roll ever in a production vehicle.
“As far as I am aware, no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona‑fide barrel roll, and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy,” said Terry Grant at the time.
“After driving the Jaguar F‑PACE in the record‑breaking loop‑the‑loop, it has been amazing to help launch the next chapter of the PACE family in an even more dramatic dynamic feat,” he added.
Jaguar did put out an amusing warning not to try the stunt at home.
Nobody wants to throw their own SUV onto its roof trying to break a world record after all.
The E-PACE is of course no longer on sale as Jaguar gets ready for its new era.
