The electric pickup truck backed by Jeff Bezos and being built by Slate Auto could be the future of affordable electric trucks.

Bezos has poured plenty of money into the project, and Slate Auto hopes to release the truck at a budget price.

The move could potentially unlock EVs for the masses and undercut rivals such as Ford and Rivian.

An image of the truck has circulated on Reddit, with one user posting a photo of the small pickup being unloaded from a flatbed in Los Angeles.

The Jeff Bezos pickup truck has been kept under wraps

So far, Bezos and Slate Auto have kept the electric truck under wraps.

But the Reddit image offers a clear glimpse of what it will look like.

The truck is compact, with a single-cab style layout and a small bed.

The design harks back to the days of the original Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S-10, two classic compact trucks.

The design itself has already been a hit.

Users on Reddit praised its utilitarian headlights and bolt-on fenders, suggesting that Slate Auto is taking cost-efficiency very seriously.

The front of the EV resembles pickups from Ford, while it looks like the Land Rover Defender has inspired the boxy wheel arches.

Affordability is the Slate Auto’s biggest selling point

The biggest selling point for the new truck is its affordability, with it set to undercut many of its American rivals.

Slate Auto is aiming to deliver the two-seater at a good price for the vast majority of consumers.

That price is set to be at around the $25,000 mark.

That would undercut virtually every other electric truck currently available in North America.

While it’s smaller than a lot of its rivals, there’s a definite place in the market for a compact electric pickup truck.

Should the Bezos-backed design prove to be a success, it would fill an important gap in the market.

That’s a gap other manufacturers such as Ford, Chevrolet, and others will have missed out on.

Any truck they then launch after Slate’s may not have the grip on the market it otherwise could have.

The reveal of the prototype, however, means testing is well underway.

It’ll be fascinating to see how the truck progresses from this point onward.
