Jeremy Clarkson had a terrifying close call on Bolivia’s ‘Death Road’ and it’s enough to give you vertigo.

The former Top Gear host has driven cars all over the world.

But we doubt he’d have fond memories of this trip to Bolivia’s ‘Death Road’, where even slight mistakes can have fatal consequences.

Let’s just say, you’ll have sweaty palms and a possible stomach ache from watching this clip.

Jeremy Clarkson’s terrifying drive along Bolivia’s ‘Death Road’ is the thing nightmares are made of

Across hundreds of episodes and countless specials, Jeremy Clarkson tackled some of the world’s most interesting roads during his years as a Top Gear co-host.

You may recall the time he stirred up controversy in Argentina due to his license plate.

Or how about when he drove a Ford GT across the UK and France to see how a supercar could fare as an everyday car?

We’re sure those experiences offered up some challenges, but they pale in comparison to Bolivia’s ‘Death Road’.

With a name like that, it hardly conjures up images of leisurely drives, does it?

Okay, to be fair, that’s not the road’s real name.

Can you imagine trying to get something like that through planning permission at a council meeting?

The Camino de la Muerte is a 37-mile stretch of road, widely regarded as the world’s most dangerous road.

It was built by Paraguayan prisoners of war following the end of the Chaco War in 1935.

Its construction led to a lot of tragedies, and many more have followed in the years since.

For years, there was no alternative to this dangerous road – until a bypass opened in 2007.

Up until that point, approximately 100 people lost their lives on the road each year.

So that begs the question – how did Jeremy Clarkson do when he took it on?

Brace yourselves…this one is not for the faint of heart

Clarkson took on ‘Death Road’ in Top Gear‘s Bolivia Special, which aired back in 2009.

The usually confident and outspoken TV host was visibly nervous about driving along the edge of a cliff.

Well, you would be, wouldn’t you?

Matters were made worse by the presence of another car, which was trying to pass by him.

He had to order the other driver to stop, as he was precariously close to the edge.

As rocks crumbled and fell into the abyss, Clarkson was understandably startled.

“That is going, that is going!” he yelled.

Once he’d safely passed, he let out a big sigh of relief.

We were all doing a collective sigh of relief, so we feel you, Jeremy.
