Former US President Joe Biden still owns a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray his family bought new.
The car is in amazing shape, and there are two things that stand out.
First, the original MSRP, which will make some of us cry.
And second, the fact he can’t actually drive it anymore.
You’ll never guess the original MSRP of this Chevrolet Corvette
In the latest video on the Jay Leno’s Garage YouTube channel, former US President Joe Biden showed Leno and his viewers his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray convertible, which he received as a wedding gift back in the 1960s.
Almost 60 years later, the car is still in pristine condition since.
This is a very valuable car today but the MSRP back then will surprise you.
“I still have the sticker price on the window. It was $5,700,” Biden said.
At which point Leno said that it ‘was a lot of money back then’.
Which it was, because that’s the equivalent of $58,000 in 2026.
Still cheaper than a brand-new 2026 Corvette, but not that cheap.

Biden told Leno that he has kept his 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray in good condition by storing it in his garage and occasionally driving it on his long, quarter-mile driveway to ‘crank it up’.
However, for one good reason, Biden can’t actually drive it on the road.
Why Joe Biden can’t actually drive his car
Unfortunately for him, Joe Biden can’t drive his Chevy Corvette anymore, and he never will.
In fact, he hasn’t been able to drive it since 2009, when he first became vice president.
The Former Presidents Act, which took effect in 1958, stipulates that presidents and vice presidents – both former and current – can’t drive on public roads.

The last US president legally allowed to drive themselves on public roads was Lyndon B. Johnson.
This is part of the standard protocol to protect current and former presidents and vice presidents.
It’s the same reason why POTUS Is followed by a motorcade comprising over 50 vehicles, including at least two identical bulletproof Cadillacs known as The Beast.

It’s also the reason said Cadillac is destroyed, again for security reasons, when the Secret Service replaces it every eight years.
Then, of course, there’s Air Force One, which is basically a flying fortress.
So that’s today’s moral of the story: if you like driving cars, don’t become the president of the US.
