This aviation enthusiast from Arizona owns many jets, including a Cessna Citation, and has laid out the cost of owning a private jet, saying that it’s surprisingly affordable.
Before you shake your head and laugh, hear him out.
You see, what he meant was owning an aircraft is relatively cheaper than most people think.
He broke down all the costs, and interestingly, some of them are less expensive than what it costs to have an exotic supercar.

YouTuber says owning a private jet is surprisingly affordable
Arizona-based YouTuber Jeffrey from JR Aviation is in the business of buying and selling planes, and he bought a Cessna Citation 501 SP not so long ago.
At the time he bought it, he was shocked by the costs that came with it and shared what they were.
In a recent video, however, his opinion seems to be wildly different.
In contrast, Jeffrey now says that owning a private jet is surprisingly affordable.
Before we get to the specific costs, you’ll only ‘save’ money on recurring expenses, provided you follow some rules.
For instance, getting a subscription-based fuel service and finding a half-decent mechanic can go a long way toward saving money.
All the prices he mentioned were linked to his own Cessna Citation 501 SP — formally called the Cessna 501 Citation I/SP.
It’s undoubtedly one of the most affordable private jets, and since it’s pre-certified for single-pilot operation, he didn’t have to pay extra for licensing.
How much does it cost to own a personal aircraft?
Firstly, he began with the fuel costs — which he said were ‘surprisingly cheap’ these days.
Jet fuel in Arizona — where he lives — costs him around $3.79/gallon, and a recurring subscription could lower that to $3.2/gallon.
Further, the YouTuber said he pays $700 monthly for dedicated storage at a private hangar.
It’s like a private storage for luxury cars, and the costs aren’t far off.
Next up, he talked about the registration, licensing, and transfer documentation costs that someone would have to pay to the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).
For something like a Lamborghini, all that would set you back by around $20,000 to $30,000 depending on where you live.
For a private jet, however, Jeffrey only had to pay a grand total of $30.
Parts are expensive, and there isn’t much you can do about that apart from buying used parts — which can save you a good amount of cash in the long run.
As for the maintenance costs, well, it’s expensive.
For regular maintenance, he recommended finding a skilled mechanic who knows what they’re doing.
If you look at it from a broader perspective, private jet ownership isn’t as complicated as it might appear to be.
However, if that isn’t your cup of tea, you can always explore other ownership options.
