Lewis Hamilton sold his entire car collection after joining Ferrari, and he now only drives his company car.
He still gets to drive Ferraris and Alfas as company cars, so that’s not a bad deal.
But even so, he apparently no longer owns any personal vehicles, and that’s for three reasons.
Including a reason that explains why there’s only one car in the entire world he’d make an exception for.

Why Hamilton sold his entire car collection
Lewis Hamilton, like most F1 drivers, has the budget to buy practically anything he wants, and he’s also whitelisted to get any car.
Being rich isn’t enough when it comes to certain limited-edition cars, but that’s not a problem for F1 drivers who get to buy special-edition vehicles made by the very companies they work.
Aside from his Pagani Zonda, just to name a few, Hamilton used to own both a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta and the AMG One that Nico Rosberg also owns.
And you can only buy those two cars if you’re approved by Ferrari and Mercedes, which Hamilton obviously was.

But he’s now sold them all – literally all of them including the AMG ONE he developed with Mercedes.
He did it for three reasons.
Environmental concerns played a part, and he’s probably already scratched that particular itch, which is why road cars no longer interest him.
There’s also another reason, which leads to the only car he’d make an exception for.
The only car he’d still want
Hamilton announced he’d sold his entire car collection a few months back, just ahead of the Azerbaijan GP.
At the time, Hamilton said he wanted to use the money to fund his new passion: art.

And this is why he also said that the Ferrari F40 is the only car he’d still want.
“If I were going to get a car, it would be the Ferrari F40. But that’s a nice piece of art,” he added.
Coincidentally, the F40 is the protagonist of the very first photograph that Hamilton shared to social media as a Ferrari driver.
That picture broke the internet, by the way, because it is now the most liked F1 Instagram post ever.
