This stunning low-mileage 1960 Ford Thunderbird has a new lease of life after being caught up in a hurricane in Florida.

The eye-catching Thunderbird had a bit of a rough run – and spent several years outside, exposed to the elements.

Thankfully, the T-Bird wasn’t confined to the scrap-heap.

And it’s now a testament to how the right care and attention can give a classic car a second chance.

The Ford Thunderbird had a rough time

It’s fair to say a lot of cars that have parked up in storage for years aren’t in the best shape.

But on occasion, and with the right parts, attention and expertise, they can be restored to their former glory – like this $400,000 Mercedes barn find or the Audi R8 Spyder that had a heroic restoration.

And another fine example is this 1960s T-Bird that was part of a collection that spent ‘years’ in storage, according to eBay seller kramerdad1.

And that was just the start of its woes.

After an undetermined time parked up, the Thunderbird got caught in a Floridian hurricane around three or four years ago that completely flooded the storage facility it was being held out.

The collection of cars were then placed outside in an ‘open dirt storage lot’. Ouch.

After three years experiencing the great outdoors, the cars finally went up for sale as ‘salvage’ vehicles.

Despite being listed as salvage, the seller says the T-Bird had no mechanical issues, but did have some rusting to its rockers.

It’s been lovingly restored

After snapping up the vintage beauty, the seller repaired the rusty rockers and gave it a fresh coat of original metal flake burgundy paint.

The previous owner had fitted a new air conditioning unit and a Newport electric windshield wiper, both of which work perfectly – but to er on the side of caution, the seller decided to ‘upgrade and replace anything that could go wrong’.

Meaning the T-Bird has a bunch of new elements, including four-barrel carburetor, new steering wheel, new alternator, new shocks and more.

The transmission was also repaired and now shifts properly.

With all the work done, the T-Bird now runs ‘without a problem’.

And not only that but it’s years and years off road, mean the T-Bird has a very low mileage with just 51,682 miles on the clock.

 What a find.
