A YouTuber picked up Jeremy Clarkson’s battered Top Gear Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6 Veloce at auction, completely unseen after it had been off the road for almost eight years.

After getting it roadworthy again, he decided the only proper test was a 100-mile road trip with the camera rolling the whole way.

The 100-mile road trip was the sort of journey that Top Gear fans would’ve eaten up.

Driving across the UK, the Alfa started causing chaos in a way that only an Alfa Romeo can.

Taking Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear Alfa Romeo 75 on a road trip

The plan was simple: drive across the UK, from Berkshire to a pub just south of the university town of Cambridge in Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6 Veloce, around 100 miles, and see if the Alfa could survive.

Before setting off, the YouTuber swapped his replacement license plate for a retro-style plate that matched the original.

Immediately, the Alfa started doing Alfa things: the tank was full, but the fuel gauge claimed it was only three-quarters – a minor moment, but it set the tone.

The quirks kept coming as they carried on their journey.

The car had roof-mounted electric window switches, an electric mirror that barely worked, and absolutely no cup holders.

That meant that his passenger became the official cup holder for the entire journey, a role she did not apply for.

On the motorway, the Alfa was surprisingly strong as the oil pressure looked healthy, the engine worked well, and the V6 sounded properly special, the only problem was… everything else.

The temperature gauge started bouncing around, the wipers could not settle properly, and a buzzing noise appeared in the dashboard, described as a thousand bumblebees living behind the speedometer.

Then came the big moment: the hood popped open while driving.

They pulled into a service station to fix the latch with a screwdriver, discovered the handbrake had also failed, and had to park it in gear like it was 1989.

Just for extra chaos, the replacement door handle broke again, undoing repairs from a previous attempt.

And because the Alfa clearly wanted one final dramatic moment, the last stretch involved driving through a flooded road to reach the destination.

The finish line was worth it, and they arrived at The George Inn, the exact spot where Clarkson, Hammond, and May met during the Top Gear Alfa challenge episode in 2008.

The Alfa rattled, buzzed, broke, and improvised its way there, but it made it.
