Today’s story continues the trend of comparing bargain tech products.
Online retailers such as Temu and AliExpress have become much more prominent in recent years.
It is a phenomenon that has led many to try out products from these sites.
But what happens if you buy a 3D printer from one?
Thomas Sanladerer is the man who has just answered that question.
He presents his own YouTube channel – Made With Layers (Thomas Sanladerer).
His is a channel dedicated to all things 3D printer-related.

So who better to examine the product?
Thomas opened the video with a pretty remarkable reveal.
He’d spent just around $78 on this Easythread K9 printer.
Thomas took a close look to see what powers this machine.
A look at the internals revealed a very basic electronic setup, as well as a lack of basic safety features commonly found in mainstream, higher-end machines.
Thankfully, the actual assembly of this 3D printer was relatively easy.

That was due to its simple setup of small and limited parts.
There is then the practice of actually calibrating the printer to perform.
Because the machine lacks a heated bed and a sturdy frame, achieving a level surface is difficult.
Thomas notes the printer uses a unique, simplified software.

YouTuber delivers damning verdict
So, how did this AliExpress 3D printer actually perform?
Thomas attempted a first print using the included filament, but it didn’t exactly go smoothly.
The machine was loud and vibrated significantly due to its lightweight construction.
After this, Thomas attempted the ‘Benchy Test.’
For those who are unaware, this is the industry-standard torture test.
And the 3D printer from AliExpress performs poorly.
The print quality is low, with significant ‘ghosting,’ poor layer adhesion, and stringing.
Thomas concluded that, to its credit, the printer technically ‘works.’
However, he is adamant that the $78 is better spent on a used name-brand item or saved towards a brand-new entry-level offering.
Furthermore, the lack of safety features and the ‘toy-like’ build quality make it a potential fire hazard.
