One YouTuber decided to turn a neglected cheap Range Rover into a full car restoration project after discovering just how little these once-expensive SUVs can cost today.
The vehicle in question had originally sold for around £100,000 ($133,400) when new, making it one of the most luxurious SUVs money could buy at the time.
But after years of depreciation, the same car was picked up for just £1,000 ($1,334).
While picking it up seemed like a no-brainer, it wasn’t as straightforward as it may seem.

The car was pretty dirty but mechanically sound
The vehicle was a Range Rover L322 equipped with a massive 3.6-liter twin-turbo V8 diesel engine.

Built by Land Rover, the L322 generation once represented the peak of British off-road luxury, combining serious 4×4 capability with plush interiors and high-end tech.
Two decades later, however, many of these vehicles had become infamous for expensive maintenance and complex repairs.
That reputation didn’t stop YouTuber Hudson Auto Films from snapping up what he believed to be the cheapest running example in the country.
The SUV arrived dirty, slightly mismatched, and missing a few cosmetic details, including a wheel and various trim pieces.

Still, beneath the grime, the Range Rover looked surprisingly good.
After replacing the missing tire and giving the SUV a thorough wash, the transformation was almost shocking.

The neglected old car suddenly revealed glossy paintwork and a surprisingly tidy body.

From there, the restoration focused mostly on simple cosmetic fixes rather than major mechanical surgery.
The YouTuber replaced worn plastic trim, refreshed faded parts, and installed new grille pieces and mirror caps to give the vehicle a more aggressive blacked-out look.

Yellowed headlights were polished to bring back some clarity, while small details like door handles and badges helped make the SUV look far newer than its price tag suggested.
Inside, the luxury factor was still very much intact.
Leather seats, wood trim, and a spacious cabin reminded viewers why the Range Rover once carried a six-figure price tag.

A cheap Range Rover can pay off if you are willing to take the risks
Of course, not everything about the ownership experience was cheap.
The first fuel stop alone cost over £107 ($144) thanks to the thirsty V8 engine, which was averaging around 16 miles per gallon.

The annual road tax also came as a shock, totaling roughly £750 ($1,009), nearly as much as the purchase price of the vehicle itself.
Range Rovers also aren’t known for their reliability, which explains why many models are simply left abandoned in public areas.
The top comment on the video summed it up: “No doubt about it. The inside of a Range Rover is a great place to be while waiting for the recovery truck!”
Still, for the price he paid, it was still a massive bargain.

And after several months and thousands of miles, the cheap Range Rover experiment seemed to prove one thing.
If you’re willing to accept the risks, a heavily depreciated luxury SUV might just be one of the most entertaining car restoration projections you can embark on.
Just make sure you inspect the vehicle thoroughly so you don’t end up with unexpected surprises.
