This guy bought a Ford Mondeo with a gazillion miles on the clock – he calls it the ‘world’s highest mileage’ Ford – for just $200.
This is exactly the sort of thing that generally goes either surprisingly well or terribly wrong.
In his case, both things apply.
But here’s why the good news probably outweighed the bad news.

There were many things wrong with this Ford Mondeo, but here’s why the news was still mostly good
The guy behind the BuySellCars TV YouTube channel bought a Ford Mondeo with 406,000 miles on the clock for just £150 – equivalent to around $200.
The car ran well, more or less, but he still decided to take it to Ford for an inspection.
And it went exactly as expected.
It’s like going to the dentist.
You think you’re fine because your teeth aren’t aching, but then the dentist finds a long list of things that are wrong with them.
That’s what happened to this Mondeo owner.
Everything was great apart from… the rear brake pads, rear brake discs, a ‘substantial’ fluid leak under the engine, and general underside corrosion.
Hold on because there’s more.
The front tire had a very deep cut, the suspension springs were damaged, as was the front fog light.
And the list went on.
Here’s why the Ford owner decided to do precisely nothing about it
One of the biggest problems with cheap used cars is that the potential costs you’d face if you need to fix the vehicle generally make the original selling price meaningless.
There’s no point spending $5,000 on a used Porsche if you then need to spend $10,000 to fix it.
Fortunately for this Mondeo owner, the problems were many but minor.

He decided to do nothing about it because the list of faults was long, but not worrisome.
It was mostly stuff you could live with, and the Ford Service Center he talked to quoted him $150 for every hour of work they’d put into his car, which would obviously make, in his words, the Mondeo a ‘write-off’.
Well, he’s not wrong.
