Upgrading a car wash usually means dealing with soapsuds and worn-out equipment, not stumbling across hidden treasure.

After all, it’s the kind of work that’s more practical than exciting.

But every once in a while, something unexpected changes the entire story.

And in one YouTuber and business owner’s experience, this was one of those times.

Renovating the car wash ended up being a great decision

Oklahoma-based owner, StephentheInvestor, had been reinvesting profits from a strong previous month back into his business, focusing on upgrading aging self-serve bays.

That meant stripping the walls down completely and removing old vault systems that once held coins from customers.

These vaults had been part of an outdated payment system, where coins dropped through tubing into collection boxes behind the scenes.

At the time of his original renovation, he admitted he had skipped removing them because it was too much trouble.

This time around, however, there was no avoiding it.

This inconvenience paid off almost immediately.

As workers knocked one of the old vaults loose, coins began pouring out.

Not just a few forgotten quarters, but years’ worth of loose change that had somehow bypassed the original collection system.

Instead of reaching the meter box, the coins had fallen off to the side and collected inside the walls.

Cleaning up the mess wasn’t exactly glamorous

The coins were mixed in with concrete debris, dust, and grime, requiring hours of sorting, washing, and drying before they could even be counted.

However, the effort turned out to be well worth it.

Once everything was separated, the totals were staggering.

Nearly 6,000 quarters alone added up to just under $1,500.

Add in hundreds of dollar coins, and the total haul of hidden treasure came close to $2,000.

Not bad for something that had been sitting inside the walls for years.

The timing couldn’t have been better either.

Business had slowed compared to the previous month due to weather changes, something the owner noted was a major factor in the car wash industry.

Rainy days and mild conditions meant fewer customers, and in turn, lower revenue.

Even so, the rest of the numbers weren’t bad.

Over 10 days, the car wash brought in more than $3,300 in cash and coins, with additional credit card transactions pushing the monthly total past $6,300.

Still, it was a far cry from the $500,000 that the car wash made him over the year.

In the end, the unexpected windfall helped offset renovation costs, which ran into the thousands per bay.

And with more old vaults still waiting to be removed, there’s always the chance he would find even more hidden treasure.
