80-year-old driver gets stuck attempting to drive Mercedes-Benz down Rome's Spanish Steps

This 80-year-old driver got stuck attempting to drive a large Mercedes-Benz A-Class down Rome’s iconic Spanish Steps.

While many people have probably had an intrusive thought about what it would be like to drive a car down the 18th Century tourist destination, this octogenarian actually did it.

The police and fire brigade in the area have been cagey about whether it happened by accident or on purpose, but clarified that the man had not been drinking.

The fire brigade had to come and rescue him by using a small crane to remove the stuck Mercedes-Benz, but this man certainly took his sight-seeing tour to a whole new level.

The Roman municipal police and fire department reported that they had rescued an 80-year-old man and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class he was driving when he attempted to drive the large car down the iconic Spanish Steps.

The steps, leading up to the Trinità dei Monti church are a popular tourist destination and were built in the 18th Century, now they are exclusively pedestrian-only.

The octogenarian attempted to drive a Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan from the top of the steps down to street level and quickly became stuck, meaning that police and fire services attended the scene and removed him and the car.

The fire brigade used a small crane to lift the large sedan off the iconic Italian monument and shared very little information about the driver or his intentions.

The police said that the driver tested negative for alcohol in his body and didn’t share his name, intentions, or whether he was using a Sat-Nav, which would help identify whether it was intentional or an accident.

This isn’t the first time a driver has caused chaos on the Spanish Steps, as a Maserati driver was apprehended and charged for driving down the iconic monument, although he didn’t get stuck.

This driver certainly took his sight-seeing tour extremely seriously.
