A buyer who recently ordered the Slate truck, the electric truck backed by Jeff Bezos, received an unusual gift.

He hasn’t taken delivery of the truck yet, but the gift was basically confirmation of the fact his truck is being built.

We don’t know for sure exactly how he specced it.

But, interestingly, we can kind of deduce it precisely because of this gift.

A nice little gift

The soon-to-be-owner of the truck wrote about his experience and shared a sketch of what his truck is going to look like.

Along with a nice drawing of his truck, presumably specced exactly as the real-life thing, he also received a – very long – letter.

“We’ve loved building your truck.

But, if you ask us, the real magic happens when you make it your own, and make memories of your own. Before you know, you’ll be behind the wheel of your very own Slate.

“And whether it’s a couple of small accents or you’ve put your creative fingerprint over every square inch, you’re part of the Slate family. Until then, here’s a small token of our appreciation.

“It’s a concept sketch by our design team. It started as an idea, but now it’s real. And that’s because of you. So, from everyone on the Slate team, thank you,” the letter read.

And yeah, it’s quite long, isn’t it?

It’s a nice gesture, though.

And it goes to show how Slate is pairing its unusual business model with an unusual approach to customer service.

About the Slate truck

This new EV startup, Slate, made headlines after introducing the world’s first electric ‘modular’ pick-up truck built on a budget.

The company even received financial backing from Jeff Bezos, and that probably contributed to the hype.

You buy the base truck and it doesn’t even have power windows, or you can spend a bit more and customize it with some cool gadgets.

You can even turn it into an SUV with a DIY kit.

The truck is cheap but not that cheap, considering a brand-new Ford Maverick can be had for less money. But the company has already received over 10,000 pre-orders.

The electric truck is only available in North America, for now, but hopefully that’ll change soon.
