This man was given a chance to get a free Mercedes GL450 if he could fix it — which he eventually did quite easily.

Previously, the car had been inspected by two mechanics who said it needed a new engine due to damage in one of its cylinders.

Although the car did run and drive, if he was forced to replace the engine, the car could end up costing him an arm and a leg.

Despite these issues, this YouTuber managed to fix the car without replacing the engine.

Getting a free Mercedes GL450

Waldo from Waldo’s World YouTube channel managed to fix the Mercedes GL450, even after it was misdiagnosed by two mechanics.

The owner Ray had offered the car to Waldo for free on the condition he could fix it.

Once the car was started up, the ‘Check Engine’ light lit up immediately.

Upon further inspection, the engine codes revealed that there were two counts of a cylinder five misfire.

“Now the task at hand is determining the cause of this misfire,” said Waldo.

Previously, Waldo had also managed to start a non-runner Range Rover that he bought for $2,000 with relative ease.

So if anyone can properly diagnose the issue in this car, it’s him.

Fixing the Mercedes

“Gasoline engines need four things in order to operate – air, compression, fuel, and spark. If any one of those things are missing in a single cylinder, you’ll have a misfire,” explained Waldo.

The two mechanics who had diagnosed the car also saw ‘bad’ cylinder scarring, which can cause a loss of compression, which can cause a misfire.

However, a quick compression and spark test proved that there was no problem with cylinder five.

It seemed that the problem was with the ECU, which is like the brain of the car.

Once Waldo was able to able to replace the ECU, the engine ran without any issues.

Thankfully, the YouTuber didn’t give up on the car and managed to revive it, unlike this mechanic who gave up on trying to fix this 2014 Maserati Ghibli, due to engine failures.
