A French tech-lover managed to power his entire home for a staggering eight years using old laptop batteries.
With energy prices rising, many folks have begun to consider alternatives to standard power, such as installing solar panels.
But one man began to collect laptop batteries – and plenty of them – to create his own off-grid power source.
And not only did he manage to make it work, but he claimed it powered his property for years.

He spent months collecting and sorting the batteries
Using batteries to power your home isn’t a new concept – the Tesla Powerwall, for example, can do just that.
One man in Florida heaped praise on the Powerwall after it managed to keep his home up and running following Hurricane Milton late last year.

However, a man in France managed to create a DIY alternative that he claimed was able to power his home for years using nothing but old laptop batteries and some solar panels.
The project began back in late 2016 and Glubux said that almost a decade on he’s still using the set-up to power his home.
Explaining how he managed it in the Second Life Storage forum, the man, known as Glubux, said he spent a ‘few months’ collecting old laptop batteries and quickly amassed hundreds of them.
Once he had obtained the batteries, he began to organize and sort them into ‘battery packs’.
He also needed somewhere to store all those batteries – around 1,000 in total – so built a shed outside his property.
It has provided eight years of energy and is still going
More than eight years later, Glubux says the DIY home energy solution has been powering his entire house ever since.
“Just a quick update, eight years later everything works fine, I haven’t changed a single cell,” he wrote in December last year.
“I replaced my old solar panels with new ones, 440W peak X 24, which is really more comfortable at this time of the year.”

While we can’t help but marvel at this guy’s ingenuity, now would probably be a good time to stress that you should not try this at home.
Laptop batteries are, of course, only designed to power laptops and shouldn’t be used for any other purpose.
If you do fancy adding some battery power to your home, then look into a proper battery home energy storage product, such as the Powerwall.
