This man had noticed a stationary 1970 Ford Country Squire in his neighborhood, and after curiosity got the better of him, he decided to investigate it further.

After asking about the car, the gearhead managed to get his hands on the keys, all for just $1.

But, after the car had been sitting still for many years on end, it turned out that it needed more than a quick start and polish to run again.

The car fan had one goal - to get it working and get it home.

He tempted fate by asking for a Ford Country Squire

Ford is arguably one of the most popular car brands around, so when an abandoned model is spotted just collecting dust, many gearheads can't help but want to get their hands on it.

So, when this car enthusiast saw a 1970 Ford Squire gathering dust, he couldn't help but enquire.

YouTube creator Jack Goes Thrifting decided to put a note under the door of the car, and to his surprise, he received a quick response.

In fact, the owner said that he could have it, with the YouTuber describing it as a 'free station wagon'.

Inside, it was clear that the Squire had been left to the elements, with all kinds of cobwebs and creatures living in it, but the car enthusiast was left with one question - could it actually move?

Would the car be able to start?

After getting the keys, the YouTuber got to work and tried to give the car a new lease of life.

But the years of rust and rubble inside showed just how much work was needed to bring it into the 21st century.

First up on the agenda was a spring clean, and then a battery was thrown in to see if the 390 6.4L V8 engine would work.

To the new owner's surprise, the Ford Country Squire actually lit up - which meant that there was a least a little something going on.

It even had working headlights and indicators, plus inside, a few things, like the fan, worked too, and after some more engine work that included cleaning and replacing the spark plugs, the car seemed to actually run.

"It has been a process, but this thing is idling, " said the creator as he reversed it out of the parking space it had been left in for many years.

After a few more engine upgrades, such as new fuel and water pumps, the car was able to travel a short distance of 0.4 miles, but still needed some work done to make sure that it was in tip-top condition.

For a free snap-up, this gearhead didn't do too badly - although his journey to the open road is far from complete yet.

Interestingly, the Ford Country Squire isn't the only abandoned Ford that we've seen lately, either.

We spotted a Ford GT that was so dirty that it needed to be inspected with hazmat gear.

And this poor Ford Galaxie XL that was abandoned for 38 years.

Some gearheads just can't keep up with the maintenance, but it's not all bad, as many creators give the cars a second shot at life.
